Lisa Guillot

Trauma Recovery Specialist, Trauma Survivor, and Registered Nurse

Not only am I a recovery specialist, but I’m a trauma survivor too. Hi I’m Lisa.

Down below is my story of overcoming trauma, my work as a nurse, and journey to becoming a trauma recovery coach.

Existing therapies and medications didn’t work. But, when I learned how the brain really worked and discovered new methods of coping and healing, I was able to free myself so I could live happy and connected with others.

Remember, you’re not alone. I’m here for you. And if it’s time to seriously get help, then go to the Get Help Now page and schedule an initial session with me.

There were dark times when I felt so alone and helpless that I heavily questioned whether I should keep going.

I didn’t know how to be happy. I couldn’t form healthy relationships with others. I trusted no-one because I learned at an early age, not to trust my caregivers.

It seemed like my life would never change. I thought I would be forever alone, unable to connect with others. At work, I would look normal. But on the inside & when I was home, I just felt so miserable.

Often, I’d have ruminating thoughts and then sleep very little for days. After, I often zoned out and go into zombie mode for weeks. Other times, I would cry uncontrollably.

When I sought help, often, medication would be ordered, and I would start talk therapy.

Those approaches would help for the symptoms I was having for a little while – but the darkness would always return because I was never addressing the core or root cause for my suffering.

It wasn’t until I worked with a recovery coach and learned new life skills that I was able to feel free of the trauma and find lasting happiness and joy – with myself, with others, and with life.

Your trauma might be very different than mine, but you still have painful experiences that are damaging your life today.

Sometimes we do not notice there are problems until our relationships, jobs, and ability to cope suffer.

But the pain carried from the past needs to be healed, so you can come out stronger, healthier, and live well. Everyone’s story will be different.

There’s a better way to handle old baggage and scary skeletons and make it out of the abyss into the light if you’re willing to be open and work on it.

Since I have done the work myself, it’s incredibly rewarding for me to help others through as well – and that’s why I do the work I do today.

The journey has given me handy tools, powerful techniques to help others heal and grow past trauma. I’m keenly sensitive to others in pain, and I respond empathetically and intuitively to help them along.

For many of my clients, just a few sessions make them feel a whole lot better about their future. It’s game-changing.

Others might need longer. We have learned to live the way we do over time, and recovery can take time as well.

Improvements are made with every session and enhanced with the assigned learnings and new skills introduced.

Is it seriously time to recover and cope better?

Formal Training

My leadership job was in a very toxic political environment.

The pressure was intense, and I realized aspects of it were triggering my Complex PTSD. I took some time off to focus on how I handled stress.

I started meditating and working on Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, among other things. I continued my journey until I was no longer a victim of toxic stress. As I studied more, I began to realize how impacted my life was from trauma. That started me on my recovery journey.

After lots of positive changes in my life, I decided I wanted to help others like myself.

I decided to get formal coach training through iPEC.

I wanted to make sure I had the appropriate skill set. The iPEC trainers taught us that the type of clients I wanted to help needed therapy, not coaching.

I knew this wasn’t the case because therapy was not life-changing for me. Shortly after, I found the trauma program.

The most significant turning point for me was working with a Trauma Coach.

Not only had she overcome trauma herself, but the tools we used together worked.

In the coaching approach, every person is unique, and different tools work for different situations.

I believe everything I have been trained, clinically as an RN, and as a coach gives me a unique skill set.

I have a holistic knowledge of mental and physical health, and my history as a trauma survivor allows me to connect with my clients.

Surprisingly, my trauma and overcoming it is my greatest gift to my clients.

I will help you regain a safe sense of control during tough times and teach you new strategies for a happy, connected, and fulfilling life.

I specialize in Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and work with individuals that have experienced childhood developmental trauma, and attachment disorders.

I work with couples that are having relationship issues, grief, loneliness, and many other ways in which trauma can strike.

While talking about it may cause stress initially, releasing the trauma can be life-changing!
