Lisa's Journey from Trauma to Triumph

Hello, I’m Lisa, a Trauma Recovery Specialist with a similar story. My journey through the shadows of trauma to the light of healing wasn’t straightforward. It was filled with moments of deep despair, loneliness, and a struggle to find genuine and safe connections. Despite being highly functional in my professional life as a Registered Nurse, my personal life was a constant battle against ruminating thoughts, sleepless nights, and an overwhelming sense of misery. Caring for others was my gift, but I could not care for myself.

My early life taught me mistrust, a lesson learned from caregivers who were supposed to offer unconditional support. This mistrust seeped into every relationship, creating a barrier I couldn’t overcome. The traditional routes of therapy and medication brought only temporary relief. It was like applying a bandage to a wound that needed surgery – the underlying pain always resurfaced. As a teenager, I suffered sexual assault, a gang rape at 14 years old. I felt it was my fault, as most trauma victims do. I never told anyone because of shame, blame, and guilt. Those three words weave their way through victims’ lives. As an adult, I struggled with trust and relationships. Naturally, I had attachment issues. I’ve been through muggings, car thefts, car accidents, medical trauma, house burglary, and pretty much every type of trauma. The most significant trauma of my adult life was Hurricane Katrina. I was stuck there for nine days. The caregiver in me got a canoe from the park and took it around checking on the neighbors and the stray pets. Eventually, I was rescued and helicoptered out.

I tell you about all of my trauma and work experience so you know I am made to do this work. If I can recover from all of my trauma, you can too. Throughout my career, I have heard worse stories, and they have healed; they are still healed and thrive. The turning point for me came when I stepped beyond conventional treatments and embraced the guidance of a Holistic Trauma Coach. Together, we explored my past and developed new life skills that addressed not just the symptoms but the root causes of my trauma. This journey taught me the true power of understanding our minds, fostering resilience, and rebuilding trust in ourselves and others.

When I first reached out to Lisa, I was in a dark place. Past trauma experiences were causing PTSD flashbacks and the world seemed unsurvivable. I was at the end of my rope and desperate. Every morning I woke up with panic attacks and intense fear of facing the day.

As a trauma survivor herself, Lisa knew exactly what I was going through. She was patient and attentive in hearing my story and more importantly, seeing me. Her sincere caring was apparent from the first session, and I felt like I had a true ally in my journey toward recovery. Lisa is open-minded, smart, compassionate, and dedicated to her craft and her clients. Throughout the entire process of my recovery, I felt supported and heard. Lisa checked in with me throughout the week and I felt her presence with me always.

Lisa had a multitude of strategies and approaches to help my recovery, but what was most helpful was her willingness to take the time to get to know me and get to the root of my issues. I never felt rushed with Lisa and I never felt like she was eyeing the clock.

After working with Lisa for a period of a few months, I am now in one of the best mental places in my life. Work is going well, I am teaching martial arts again, I am back in shape, and I am enjoying my life and my family.

I always felt that my recovery was what was most important to her. As I emerge from my darkness and step into the light of a new life, I will forever be indebted to Lisa for what she has done for me and we will always be connected.

Lisa… thank you, my friend! I owe you my life.”

I reached out to Lisa during the most difficult times in my life. My husband had been diagnosed with dementia, I was leaving my career of 25 years to care for him and in the midst of selling our home to be able to relocate out of state.

I sought out a trauma specialist as I knew that my past had caught up with my current state and I was afraid of a major mental breakdown due to high levels of depression and anxiety.

I feel so fortunate to have found Lisa. From the beginning, she met my panic, terror and fear. She addressed my crisis and gave me specific tools to get me to lower my emotional stress. She guided me in understanding that my trauma had physical and emotional effects. What helped me the most was her willingness to share her experience and how she had been able to heal from trauma.

Since the time I started working with Lisa, I have made profound progress. I see how my trauma drove me most of my life and I am able to make better choices and have come to love myself.

Lisa is a trusted trauma specialist to whom I am deeply grateful for.

Recovering from Childhood Trauma: A Holistic Approach to Healing

Childhood trauma can leave deep-seated emotional scars, affecting individuals’ lives profoundly. Effective recovery from such trauma requires a comprehensive and personalized approach. Trauma Recovery Support, led by Lisa Guillot, offers specialized trauma recovery coaching that addresses the unique needs of individuals healing from early adverse experiences.

Understanding Trauma and Its Impact

The first step in the healing process involves understanding the nature and impact of trauma. Traumatic events in childhood can alter perceptions and interactions, affecting one’s ability to form healthy relationships and cope with stress. Trauma Recovery Support utilizes Trauma-Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help individuals understand how their past experiences influence their current thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

Developing Emotional Regulation Skills

An essential component of trauma recovery is learning to manage intense emotions. Techniques such as mindfulness and self-soothing are taught to help individuals gain control over their emotional responses, providing a foundation for emotional stability and resilience.

Processing the Trauma

Addressing and processing traumatic memories is a crucial aspect of recovery. Methods like Somatic Experiencing are used to help release the physical tension associated with traumatic memories, while the Neuro Affective Relational Model (NARM) explores identity, emotions, and relationships to heal emotional consequences.

Building a Supportive Environment

A supportive therapeutic relationship is fundamental to effective trauma recovery. Trauma Recovery Support ensures a safe, stable environment where individuals feel understood and validated. This supportive setting allows for the exploration of traumatic experiences in a secure and comforting space.

Conclusion

Recovery from childhood trauma is a challenging yet rewarding journey that requires a nuanced understanding of trauma’s effects and a compassionate approach to treatment. Trauma Recovery Support provides a path to healing that respects the complexity of the human experience, offering hope and a more fulfilling life for those affected by early trauma.
